If the chapter doesn’t drop in the next hour I’m phoning the aliens
1
u/DEATHSTARGOD Feb 14 '23
Now that you talked about aliens,is the God Devil(People who fear God) stronger than the Alien Devil or vice verse?
1
u/CptGatsu Feb 14 '23
How about it all falling under the Unknown Devil(people who fear the unknown)?

I fucking love the Yoru jumpscare, I've seen that page turn technique with an up close face used in other manga (most notably Tomodachi Game and tons of horror manga) but I've never seen it used in a manga as big as CSM. Very cool.

Rather than calling Fujimoto, Fuji-motor, let's call him Fuji-gato. He obviously thinks cats are better than people.
36
u/Jberz21 Feb 07 '23
Do chapters usually come out only twice a month?
15
38
u/Kang_Hyewon Feb 07 '23
It changes from weekly to biweekly often
9
u/Jberz21 Feb 07 '23
Thanks. Just caught up to the manga and was curious. Waiting is going to be brutal but glad Fujimoto can rest a bit between chapters.

A bit late but what happened to Nyako? I thought Denji was taking care of it?

Could just be in the other room. I know that my cats don't like coming around if there's guests over
63
u/__M-E-O-W__ Feb 04 '23
On the plus side, look at how well Denji's literacy and writing has improved! He has calendars, a meal plan and potted plants with his and Nayuta's names on them.
116
u/prometheusunending Feb 04 '23
Turns out the majority of their house rules are just variations on "don't open the door."
70
73
u/ponyponyta Feb 03 '23
Ooh it's been a while since we heard denjis internal thoughts
Would asa be the only gf to survive multiple deaths?
Is asa allergic to dogs
Kinda fun that makima got to keep her dogs after reincarnation
18
u/DeltaC2G Feb 07 '23
I’m kinda confused as to why yall keep calling Nayuta Makima. She’s a reincarnation of the control devil, right? Not Makima herself.
6
u/Sumanai-II Feb 07 '23
She is the reincarnation of Makima (the name of the previous Control Devil).
-6
u/SiegeSupport Feb 07 '23
No, Makima was just the person in contract with the control devil and now its Nayuta. Makima as a person died when Denji ate her but the control devil went to hell and back and now is with Nayuta. Nayuta knows nothing of Makima or anything about her previous existence.
15
u/Sumanai-II Feb 07 '23 edited Feb 07 '23
Makima was literally the Control Devil not someone with a contract with it nor a fiend. She went to hell as herself and was quickly killed and reincarnated on the human realm into the person who eventually came to be known as Nayuta (losing all of her previous memories).
Now it’s just a case of Nature vs Nurture
3
u/SiegeSupport Feb 08 '23
Now I’m REALLY confused lmao. I guess I believe you but idk what to believe?!
4
u/taichi22 Feb 12 '23
The more friendly a devil is to humans, the more human it will look. Like in the case of Angel, who actually liked humans so much he was willing to settle down and just have a life with them.
In Makima’s case, she could arguably be the most friendly devil to humans that we’ve seen — she was quite literally trying to remove death, war, sickness — any form of suffering.
When devils die they wind back up in hell. It’s never been clearly explained whether this causes a reconstruction of their body and loss in memories or they have to die in hell for this to happen, as far as I can recall, but either upon returning to hell or death in hell, a devil loses their previous body and memories, which is what happened to Makima.
13
5
u/thoaw1929 Feb 08 '23
nah makima explain it i believe, and power mentions it too before she goes
what i dont get is why dont all the devils just come back in dead bodies like makima
and what happened with all the characters coming back, did they lose their memories or something too? where they only alive as long as makima was alive?
2
u/TheCatHasmysock Feb 09 '23
Makima didn't come back ina dead body. Makima, now Nayuta, is a devil with a completely human body. At least in appearance.
2
u/thoaw1929 Feb 09 '23
then how is she able to do that while yoru needs a contract?
3
u/taichi22 Feb 12 '23
Devils can manifest either as fiends or as themselves — we see many devils that manifest as their true forms while on earth. It’s not clearly explained why a devil would choose one or the other, but most likely being summoned from hell in their full form requires a lot more work, whereas a fiend contract requires less metaphysical power.
3
u/kuroxn Feb 11 '23
The less hostile a devil is to humans the more human-like they look, that’s why the control devil looks like a human.
We don’t know Yoru’s full appearance. She appeared in the story in a weakened form in the same way as Pochita did in the beginning of the story.
3
u/TheCatHasmysock Feb 09 '23
Because Yoru was partially eaten by the Chainsaw Man before the series started.
12
u/SP-Igloo Feb 07 '23
I think their point is saying that it's weird to call them by the name of the previous incarnation of the Control Devil, when Makima is just the name of said previous incarnation. Like with Doctor Who, it'd be weird to call one Doctor by the name used for a previous regeneration.

u/Rdasher123 Feb 06 '23
We heard Denji’s internal monologue back in 117, it was just briefly at the beginning
31
u/PokeAlola700 Feb 03 '23
Hey random question, but how often are new chapters released, curious cus I’ve finally caught up with the manga
23
79
u/Halo1337JohnChief Feb 03 '23
I find it hilarious that after the kiss, Yoru (in control of Asa's body and everything) was blushing up a firestorm and sweating profusely after the "kiss" (where Denji closed his mouth out of fear).
Denji, able to make a devil hot and bothered through a closed mouth kiss XD.
34
u/__M-E-O-W__ Feb 03 '23
Oh wow, she totally was. I guess that's the "shared affection" thing between Asa and Yoru.
77
u/Admodeus420 Feb 03 '23
I have this feeling that the next arc will be about how much Nayuta is bringing isolation and despair to Denji's life.
Those rules seemed to be made to exclude Denji and Nayuta from contact with others (Not entering anyone else's house, Not having other relationships, etc). I honestly think Nayuta is a control freak over Denji's life. I'm not saying is a Fire Punch situation (hope not) but she might be very overly protective of him and not aloud to anyone else get close to him.
That would make sense in a way and it would be very ironic: Makima hated Denji's guts, and only cared about Pochita. Denji is all that Nayuta has, he's the one who shares with her farts charts, and plants, and they live together and do almost everything together, she must care about Denji more than anything else (and he's probably the only thing she cares in this world).
But for the same reasons Nayuta is killing her plant. In her attempts to protect Denji, she will only cause him more trauma and pain.
28
Feb 03 '23
Small correction, Makima couldn’t care less about Denji, remember that was her downfall because she has a keen sense of smell but only for people she deems important.
28
u/magicfaeriebattleaxe Feb 03 '23
Gosh. This chapter is where it really hit me. The last few chapters have really set Denji and Asa to have a really interesting friendship—I’m excited to see what happens next. But mostly it just hit me this chapter—after the end of the Makima saga, I was just so crushed for Denji, and seeing this now I am just really happy that he gets to have this kind of weird ass life after that hell. ToT I’m crying for our good boy
74
u/NotTalcon Feb 02 '23
If the Control Devil has power over anyone who thinks themselves inferior to her, does that mean if Nayuta wins the farting competition, she can control Dennis? 💀
14
u/somersault_dolphin Feb 05 '23
Control devil has control over those she thinks is inferior, not what they think.
34
u/BonessMalone2 Feb 02 '23
I’m honestly surprised how this part is treating Nayuta. She seems very antagonistic and Denji is almost fearful of her it seems and then we finally see her… attempt to kill someone 😅
I want the happy days back already
27
u/TheRainK1ng Feb 03 '23
I don’t know, we haven’t really seen or heard much about her at all yet but the vibe I got was less antagonistic and more spoiled/possessive younger sibling
23
u/FemtoG Feb 02 '23
can devils recognize each other ? aka Yoru will immediately know its control devil? cause they are in human form so its not so obvious
24

35
u/BrunoStalky CHAINSAW MAN CHAINSAW MAN, DOES WHATEVER A CHAINSAW CAN Feb 02 '23
Yoru says she didn't recognize Fami because she "hadn't seen her in some time", so she probably won't remember Control right away, of course, that's unless the chains are a dead giveaway or something

27

u/Aetherdraw Feb 02 '23
Yoru: The fuck is Control doing here?!
Asa: Now I get why you don't like your sisters too much...
26
75
u/Jaguar-Most Feb 02 '23
I think Nayuta didn't actually catch them kissing. In the spread where they kiss, you can see that the door is closed, then its open when Yoru has already pulled away and has her hand on his head (ready to try spinal cording him again). So i think when Nayuta says "thief" its her recognising that Yoru is the war devil and quite literally trying to steal Denji
As for rule three. When Denji says "making out" in the original japanese he uses the verb イチャイチャ, which moreso means "to flirt" or to act lovey dovey. Which uh, makes a lot more sense and is much less creepy than Nayuta being preoccupied with her big bro making out with someone else.
I also think that pochita is the memory devil, which is why rule two exists, with nayuta having a fear of the fridge from when makima got eaten, similar to how pochita's chainsaws imprinted themselves in the 4th division devils memory.
2
11
u/Traditional_Wasabi12 Feb 04 '23
It is practically impossible for her to have recognized her as the War devil remember demons lose their memories when they die and there are very few exceptions and there's not much to know if she arrived on time or not since the door when the two were close was already open
4
5
u/BonessMalone2 Feb 02 '23
Never even caught Rule Two. I was like Why is there a rule about the refrigerator????
8
43
u/Flaky-Car617 Feb 02 '23
“No matter what, don’t make out with me in front of her.”
Me: “lmao what a silly rule. there’s almost no reason for it really. why would she ever make out with him on purpose, and what would happen if nayu— oh shit. oh shit. OHHHHHH SHIT.”
30
u/GinGaru Feb 02 '23
Something that stands out to me is that breaking the rules results in death, so I doubt it's something Denji himself made up but rather something that Nayuta came up with
6
u/__M-E-O-W__ Feb 03 '23
Putting it that way it almost sounds like a contract. But those are pretty weird rules for a contract.
92
u/Hezolinn Feb 02 '23
According to the calendar in the chapter, March 31st falls on a Tuesday, which matches up our story officially taking place in the year of 1998, when The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer's table.

Wow Nayuta has grown up, I still remember her as the crayon eater and doggy rider
53
u/Snuffaluphagus_1 Feb 02 '23
Ahhh, it just hit me that the reason the spinal cord sword wont work is that he is Nayuta's...
21
u/Mohammed8W Feb 02 '23
Control devil can't control those who sees as superior to him , chainsaw man defeated the control devil so he is superior.

My crack theory is that Denji has either Kobeni or Kishibe or both of them on speed dial. Maybe they’re his neighbors at Tatsuki apartments! I think it would be insane if Kishibe just left Denji to “raise the next control Devil. Make sure she can’t be turned into a weapon of mass destruction”. I do think there’s a high possibility that he didn’t want to be evolved and just left Kobeni to do it. Maybe in exchange for paying for her rent.
24
u/Blauegeisterei Feb 02 '23
I don't think Kobeni is related to them anymore. I assume she became a dropout for good.
12
u/Plomo_Lobo Feb 02 '23
Kobeni retired to be a full time waitress
10
u/magicfaeriebattleaxe Feb 03 '23
She is the manager at her location of family burger and saving up to start franchising for the company and have a few locations getting steady income for her family and sending her sibling to school….. this is what my heart tells me

u/Martin7431 Feb 02 '23
loved the chapter, is there an official reason as to why chapters have switched to every two weeks?
12
u/kagtavi Feb 03 '23
guys please respect the amount of work done. even two weeks is insane pressure for any artist.
45
u/Kang_Hyewon Feb 02 '23
From the past two chapter releases, Fuji's taken a 1-week break after each chapter. The reason why? Who knows
-1
u/optimally_bald Feb 05 '23
his reason? having a life, not that you would understand
17
u/Kang_Hyewon Feb 06 '23
I literally go to school 6/7 days of the week😭 unlike you who spent 5 hours of their day to do this

u/FlannelOverHoodie Feb 01 '23
Anyone ever thought that yoru cannot take Denji due to him being a hybrid.
3
u/NYref1490 Feb 04 '23
Personally I think it's cause of Nayuta. Her power also revolves around what she considers hers like yoru and she probably considers Denji hers and that gives Denji some protection. It's very telling that she call Yoru thief
8
28
u/justamon22 Feb 02 '23
That’s the main theory of the community right now. The most plausible one going off of the evidence we have
A less plausible, but still pretty fun theory I saw just today was that Yoru couldn’t take Denji because Denji belongs to Nayuta.
50
u/povitryana_tryvoga Feb 01 '23 edited Feb 02 '23
No, besides those roughly 600 times it has been said in discussion thread.
1
6
u/justamon22 Feb 02 '23
Not everyone is a basement dwelling redditor. It’s possible this is this persons first time engaging with the sub. No need to be a jerk. A simple yes would have been enough
3
u/povitryana_tryvoga Feb 02 '23
"Guys! Guys, Am I the only one who thinks that ..."?
11
u/justamon22 Feb 02 '23
We don’t even know that what Denji is is called a hybrid. The true name of “hybrids” was eaten by Pochita. So a lot of the stuff surrounding them leaves us with a lot of questions. A hybrid is immune to one Horseman’s powers (Yoru) but not another (Makima)?
There’s a lot we don’t know. As people who are constantly in here, you and I are up to date on all the theories and the common consensus. But what if someone just caught up and popped in here ?
3
96
u/kalai1995 Feb 01 '23
I feel like those house rules are just what Dennis told Nayuta, but Nayuta takes them super seriously. It’s like Denis is teaching Nayuta, not to open neighbor door and not to eat before dinner, but as Control Devil she just took those rules too seriously.
11
u/ferriswheel9ndam9 Feb 01 '23
Are there still pieces of the old makima in there you wonder? A lip here, a toe there. It's mostly eaten but maybe not all of it? And maybe denji doesn't want them to know.
11
47
u/kalai1995 Feb 01 '23 edited Feb 01 '23
I think technically Dennis has already eaten all of Makima otherwise she can just regenerate. So in order for Control Devil to be reborn as Nayuta, I’d assume Dennis already finished all of Makima.
3
u/rusty_programmer Feb 01 '23
She would have been erased, right? So, that has to mean he just killed her? Or does he not know how to activate that power, I wonder
27
u/BlackMartini91 Feb 01 '23
She would only be erased if Pochita ate her but Denji ate her as a human
3
u/Laxander03 Feb 06 '23
Ohh that tracks. I was wondering why control devil wasn’t completely eradicated, how did she reincarnate? Maybe because hybrid chainsaw consumption is different.
11
45
u/No-Slip8489 Feb 01 '23
I wonder if the Control Devil and the War Devil are closer in power since Denji's meal. If we're going off the whole collective fear=power thing then you'd think that control still has a place in society, post Makima. Meanwhile, wars are practically forgotten, at least from what I remember about the Chainsaw Man world.
14
u/matheusco Feb 02 '23
Isn't there a phrase like "make no mistake, humans and devils are at war"?
Maybe I'm misremembering.
2
u/No-Slip8489 Feb 03 '23
It's been way too long since I've read through. It makes sense though. Also, at what point is something considered a war? There are obvious conflicts in Chainsaw Man. Does war have to be officially declared for the public to recognize it and fear it? It's all pretty conveniently vague.
4
61
u/This_Durian_4268 x x Feb 01 '23
Lmao the fart chart, Nayuta is a goofball with Denji.
4
u/xahhfink6 Feb 03 '23
My interpretation wasn't as goofy, more like a "you farted in the house again, put another quarter in the fart jar" kind of thing. Like, I saw it as yet another of Nayuta's rules that they aren't supposed to fart in the house and have to track it when they do.
51
u/Chefofbaddecisions Feb 01 '23
So there were three rules. And I think they’re super important despite being semi brushed off.
Don’t go into the other apartments nearby. Don’t open the fridge. Don’t make out with denji in front of her.
3 is obvious in that we saw the result. The control devil is claiming ownership of Denji. To what degree we are not fully certain if it’s proper ownership (thus why we didn’t sword denji a few chapters back) or just a jealous ownership.
1 is interesting in that it implies there are currently occupants of the apartments nearby that mustn’t be bothered. Did denji find something interesting and housed it next door? Is it security personnel watching him movements? Is it his fuck ton of huskies each have their own room?
2 is the most concerning. Don’t go in the fridge is brushed off as a bit of politeness. But last thing we saw in denjis fridge was makima meals. I fully expect him to have a good portion of her as leftovers in there he couldn’t bring himself to consume. This why she’s only a child now rather than erased.
1
u/vincentninja68 Feb 13 '23
Im not sure what to make of, because Nayuta doesn't control or own the neighbors...as far as I know.
I can relate to strongly. Food jealously or ownership is very powerful. Ever have some asshole try to take some of your food off your plate in school? That'll start fights in mild cases or for a devil; death.
Seems obvious. Nayuta is possessive/protective of Denji. Whether it's romantic jealousy or not we don't know yet.
7
53
u/neon93 Feb 01 '23 edited Feb 01 '23
Denji said he ate all of Makima. Even if he hadn't why keep it in his fridge like 6 months later. My guess is there is some of Denji's blood or something for Nayuta to eat every now and then.
5
u/ferriswheel9ndam9 Feb 01 '23
Well, I claim to eat all of the rotisserie chicken all the time but there's still bone, the feet, the head, and those two brain looking parts in the lower back.
Bet there's some fingers and bones in the fridge.
21
u/dtalb18981 Feb 02 '23
Nah he had to eat all of her or she would have regenerated it was stated a few times because they wanted him to hurry and eat her because a few hundred japanese were dying like every minute she was chopped to pieces
7
u/Martin7431 Feb 02 '23
well, yeah, but when you eat a rotisserie chicken you don't have the world at stake. i imagine he ate *all* of the meat and boiled any bones into a broth
12
32
60
Feb 01 '23
Lol. Denji farted 43 times in march. Nayuta farted 23 times. I’m curious what was on the meal sheet.
32
u/unknown_pigeon Feb 01 '23
I have a theory. Those numbers are not random. If you translate them in Kanji, you get fuck-if-I-know characters, which can also mean my-headcanon-is-real in Japanese. According to local mythology, fart. That's just a theory, but it would be nice if it was a clever nod from Fujimoto.
-20
Feb 01 '23
I don’t understand what you mean by reading kanji when there’s no kanji to read. You don’t have to be a prick about it. But if that’s what gets you off, more to you

17

I’m glad someone said it…..what the hell is the control devil’s power set? Makima was doing off the wall shit too with that “Bang”.
9
u/KrizenWave Feb 02 '23
Makima also put chains in people. She did it to Aki and Angel and a bunch of other people in the final arc.
5
u/GinGaru Feb 02 '23
It made me think that what makima was doing. shooting chains at high speed that it looked like bullets, nayuta is a lot weaker so it was slower enough for us to see
12
u/lethal_universed BARAm Worshipper Feb 02 '23

8

Right!? I can’t wait to see the Death Devil. I hope it breaks the whole manga.
39
u/thisuserisreading Feb 01 '23
Let's go nayuta get yoru out of asa's body for valentine's day 🙏🙏
29
u/Sea_Collection_5045 Feb 01 '23
What if that’s the twist? Nayuta saying “thief” refers to Yoru stealing Asa’s body and shooting a chain to yank Yoru out literally.
32
u/TheFertilePlain Feb 01 '23
The dogs are chained to Nayuta's waist (belt) like makimas control over Aki and the other corpses.
7
u/TerminallyOtaku Feb 01 '23
My guy...those are normal dog leashes not chains lmao
8
u/TheFertilePlain Feb 02 '23
They looked like chain leashes to me but yeah i don't mean literally, it's just another nod to Makima
24
u/foundativersion1 Feb 01 '23
I came here thinking this was about 119 link chains and I was very excited to see people talking about chainsaw chain lengths, but alas
