The tiger really likes that doggie. You can tell because he didn’t kill him.

3.6k

u/DiamondExternal2922 15d ago

Doggy was companion for the lion cub and they added tiger cub in too. So doggy is friend of lions and tigers in that enclosure since they were small cubs.. the Doggy doesn't realise the cats are play fighting

1.4k

u/shitposts_over_9000 14d ago

usually with the dog having a good size/age advantage over the cubs at the start, so they grow up knowing the dog as being in charge.

somewhere around this point in development they usually separate the dog from the cats so that nobody gets hurt inadvertently, sometimes they do not, particularly in asia, and you will see dogs with full-grown big cats and often even then the cats will be deferential to the dogs.

Typically you're not supposed to put tigers and lions together

Unless you want ligers, who are bred for their skills in magic.

Emotions and hierarchy can both be true.

18

u/Early_Permit_2072 14d ago

Best case scenario, like a lot’s of things into animals kingdom it’s not complex and devloped like it is for humans but it dont mean it’s not existing. Like intelligence, it may have différents levels.

49

u/Key_Employee2413 14d ago

True! My Dog jumps in between my two girl kittens when the black one gets to excited and playful when the other one wants to chill and observe things at times. He’ll just get in tween and referee like a Cat Dad

5

u/RunsWlthScissors 14d ago

Usually emotions are a requirement for animals to understand and adhere to a social hierarchy.

They wouldn’t have the necessary tools to do it without them.

27

u/shitposts_over_9000 14d ago

even just with all dogs, or domestic cats w/dogs it is always a mix of both, but when you have a larger animal that defers to a smaller one it is almost always because of past experiences where they learned that behaviour & with animals this mis-matched that is something they learn very young when the smaller animal still has an advantage or usually do not learn at all

9

u/lindsaythelostxanadu 14d ago

i think if you give every animal premium living experience vs reality i’m sure we would see all kinds of interesting things going on

It's a lab, and it's a lot smaller than the other two. Odds are it's both, they both like it because it's a lab, and they are both used to it being the sensible one/in charge.

The lion is missing a leg

161

u/Drewy99 14d ago

That's why it has a service dog

454

u/DisabledSecretPolice 14d ago

It's a liger if you look careful. Must be a young one too judging by it's size.

180

u/snazzynya 14d ago

Could also be a tigon. They're smaller because tigons are hybrids between a lioness and a tiger, and lionesses carry a growth inhibitor gene. Since tigresses don't have the growth inhibitor gene, ligers get much bigger.

52

u/DisabledSecretPolice 14d ago

Even for a tigon she's itty bitty

Edit to add: We are probably looking at a tween in terms of developmental stages.

4

u/Mister_Bloodvessel 14d ago

Probably a he, what with the mane. But it's all the same, as we don't know which hybrid it is.

6

u/The_Queef_of_England 14d ago

Or a trigor

5

u/DisabledSecretPolice 14d ago

You mean the Kree character from Marvel’s earth-616 who died in the same episode he debut in?

Teasing aside it's tigons and ligers only the name changed depending on what flavour of cat is the mum and what is the dad.

9

u/The_Queef_of_England 14d ago

Yeah, but he has 3 legs, so he's a trigon. I typoed an r instead of an n on the end.

The dog is the buffer , big cats experience dopamine blossoms when around dogs ….. they like to pet dogs and experience the same calming effect as humans , they love dogs like we love dogs. Large cats in the wild have been observed adopting stray dogs pretty often and bringing them into the pride . Dogs are divine, we are so lucky to have them in our lives.

35

u/Outrageous_Fold7939 15d ago

Whoever is down voting this just stop. Or elaborate and tell me why two apex predators that do not interact often in the wild locked together is a good idea

86

u/trekkiegamer359 14d ago

Lions and tigers generally should not be together, however if a sanctuary ends up with one abandoned cub of each, they may put them together when they are young for socialisation. Dogs are often out with abandoned large feline cubs to act as surrogate parents/older siblings. They found the cubs do much better with the dogs, and they are generally separated once the cats get too big, (at which point the cats are introduced to the adults of their species living at the sanctuary.)

These are obviously young cats. They're not ready to be without their doggie mentor(s). As for why the tiger and lion are together, probably a lack of same species cubs to socialize with. The cubs were getting a bit rough, but they weren't trying to kill each other. This was just a playground brawl for these two, and the mentor dog was making sure things didn't escalate too much.

Also, I didn't downvote them. I just thought I'd answer your question.

17

u/AnastasiaDelicious 14d ago

It’s a liger so separating it now will get really messy. 😉

6

u/Stalker401 14d ago

That is odd, but it could be how the lion ended up with the rescue in the first place, I also don't know the full context though.

3

u/bearboyjd 14d ago

Agreed, it could even be very likely if someone caught them using a trap. So it definitely could be just a messed up thing to be doing to them.

It’s a companion dog, zoos use them often including here in the US. They grew up together, and the dog is the alpha here. I’ve read that deadly attacks from the tiger/lion/cheetah etc on their fellow companion dog is very rare, although it could happen.

I got to watch a dog named Remus grow up with a cheetah cub on Instagram. They are now both fully grown and they still spend a ton of time together

I've seen this a few times and never noticed the lion is missing a leg.

He slowly hopped his ass around them just to bite the tiger on the ass.

It's so weird to see a dog comfortable with bossing a tiger around. Lol

What kinda ghetto-ass zoo has a lion, a tiger and a golden retriever in once enclosure? That place needs to be investigated ASAP.

I’m surprised this dog can walk with such huge balls.
