The lion is missing a leg

u/DisabledSecretPolice 14d ago
It's a liger if you look careful. Must be a young one too judging by it's size.
180
u/snazzynya 14d ago
Could also be a tigon. They're smaller because tigons are hybrids between a lioness and a tiger, and lionesses carry a growth inhibitor gene. Since tigresses don't have the growth inhibitor gene, ligers get much bigger.

u/DisabledSecretPolice 14d ago
Even for a tigon she's itty bitty
Edit to add: We are probably looking at a tween in terms of developmental stages.
4
u/Mister_Bloodvessel 14d ago
Probably a he, what with the mane. But it's all the same, as we don't know which hybrid it is.

You mean the Kree character from Marvel’s earth-616 who died in the same episode he debut in?
Teasing aside it's tigons and ligers only the name changed depending on what flavour of cat is the mum and what is the dad.

u/The_Queef_of_England 14d ago
Yeah, but he has 3 legs, so he's a trigon. I typoed an r instead of an n on the end.

As if a group of high class African lions would keep that name for him…. His name is either something badass like Wytombo or “dog”.
Mark was his slave name.

The dog is the buffer , big cats experience dopamine blossoms when around dogs ….. they like to pet dogs and experience the same calming effect as humans , they love dogs like we love dogs. Large cats in the wild have been observed adopting stray dogs pretty often and bringing them into the pride . Dogs are divine, we are so lucky to have them in our lives.

I don't know if any of that is true, but I'm going to tell that to my wife and see if my cat can get a dog.

u/IntoTheFeu 14d ago
Hopefully you'll have better luck than when I just asked my wife if we can get a big cat for our dog. SHE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND..

Reverse psychology, just tell you don’t want a big cat, she will come around.

I’ve thought about getting a cat for my dog. He hates other dogs. With a fiery passion. But if a cat walks by outside he seems unbothered.

Lol well ppl do that too, they just don’t do it to their dogs, so just because they eat them doesn’t mean they don’t still think they are a cute snack.

This is fucked up and no accreddited zoo facility would keep different cat species in an enclosure like this because of the stress and problems it causes.

What a horrible sized enclosure. Imagine locking these wild animals up in tiny enclosures just for us to gawk at. Absolutely disgusting.
81
u/westcoastcdn19 15d ago
These poor animals should not be together like this
7
u/DisabledSecretPolice 14d ago
It's a tiger and a tiger/lion mix you can see the tiger marks very lightly on it's rump.

u/Outrageous_Fold7939 15d ago
Whoever is down voting this just stop. Or elaborate and tell me why two apex predators that do not interact often in the wild locked together is a good idea
86
u/trekkiegamer359 14d ago
Lions and tigers generally should not be together, however if a sanctuary ends up with one abandoned cub of each, they may put them together when they are young for socialisation. Dogs are often out with abandoned large feline cubs to act as surrogate parents/older siblings. They found the cubs do much better with the dogs, and they are generally separated once the cats get too big, (at which point the cats are introduced to the adults of their species living at the sanctuary.)
These are obviously young cats. They're not ready to be without their doggie mentor(s). As for why the tiger and lion are together, probably a lack of same species cubs to socialize with. The cubs were getting a bit rough, but they weren't trying to kill each other. This was just a playground brawl for these two, and the mentor dog was making sure things didn't escalate too much.
Also, I didn't downvote them. I just thought I'd answer your question.

u/AnastasiaDelicious 14d ago
It’s a liger so separating it now will get really messy. 😉

u/bearboyjd 14d ago
One of them is missing a leg. I'm not saying it's right but there might not be a lot of options. I don't know the full context so idk.
→ More replies (2)6
u/Stalker401 14d ago
That is odd, but it could be how the lion ended up with the rescue in the first place, I also don't know the full context though.
3
u/bearboyjd 14d ago
Agreed, it could even be very likely if someone caught them using a trap. So it definitely could be just a messed up thing to be doing to them.

u/big-buddha-belly 14d ago
It’s a companion dog, zoos use them often including here in the US. They grew up together, and the dog is the alpha here. I’ve read that deadly attacks from the tiger/lion/cheetah etc on their fellow companion dog is very rare, although it could happen.
I got to watch a dog named Remus grow up with a cheetah cub on Instagram. They are now both fully grown and they still spend a ton of time together

Why isn't there anyone making sure these big cats are taken care of properly because they clearly aren't? Besides that lions and tigers should obviously not be kept in captivity in general there are some things that should definetely be punished.

Lion and tiger might have grown Up under the Dog, and now they have founded a pack of sorts. Maybe the Dog sees those two as his Foster kids

I've seen this a few times and never noticed the lion is missing a leg.
He slowly hopped his ass around them just to bite the tiger on the ass.
