Y'all do realize that there's a difference between "murdered by words" and "being a dick" right? No murder here, just dicks.

Looks like we'll have to rename the subreddit to r/NurNurAtEachOther.

Atheism isn't not believing, that would be agnostic, where you don't have a hard belief on celestial things. Atheism is the belief that there is not a God. With that logic, as a Christian I would be not believing the other 10,000 gods people claim are real, you just believe 10,001 gods aren't real. You believe in one less God than Christians. You still have a belief on the number of Gods there are.
Not sure what sub you are in that they gave you upvotes and the other person downvotes, unless they said some egregious things up the chain.

Yeah I think part of the problem here is lazy use of language. Of course atheists believe there are no gods.
But that isn't a belief system the same as Christianity or Hinduism, Buddhism etc.
Simply having come to a personal conclusion about the existence of someone else's god is definitely not a belief system.
Maybe many who try yo say atheists 'have belief' by lumping them all in with the Humanists?

I think religion is a load of man made bs. Is that atheist?
1
u/ShawnyMcKnight Jun 08 '23
Not really. If you are certain there isn’t a god, you are an atheist. A lot of people hate established religion but believe there is a god. They would classify themselves as spiritual or a monotheist, polytheist or another type of theist… or just straight up agnostic.

Than I am an atheïst. I am totally but really totally convinced it's human fantasy. No doubt at my side. I used to enjoy Harris and Hitchens debating the religious. Cheers

The number of gods I believe in is zero. That makes me an atheist.
I don't claim to know that there are no gods, however, because I'm agnostic.
It's not complicated.

Depends on your definition. Some modern usages would have agnostic as a lack of knowledge, atheist as a lack of belief, and antitheist as the positive stance of there being no god(s)*.

u/ShawnyMcKnight Jun 06 '23
I guess from my discussions with atheist they would firmly say there is no god. That feels like something they believe. Maybe there is a fine difference between believe and belief.

But consider this, the 3 hour old baby doesn't believe in god Because they have no belief system. They are implicitly atheistic
1
u/ShawnyMcKnight Jun 11 '23
Or they believe the caretakers are their god, who knows?
1
u/Scobus3 Jun 11 '23
lol maybe. I think their only belief at that time is that leaving the womb shouldn't have meant an end to being fed constantly

u/Ratdrake Jun 07 '23
Atheism means not a theist meaning not processing a belief in god. Check out r/DebateReligion or r/DebateAnAtheist and you'll hear atheists bring up that point.

Atheism is a belief though. The guy's wrong. And they're both weirdly aggressive.

Lack of belief is the opposite of belief. I do however believe you're an idiot

When you're done you're jerking yourself off to your brilliant wordplay try to think about what agnosticism is supposed to be if atheism isn't a belief you smooth-brained disappointment to your parents. 'A', not, and "theism", god - literally "no god", the stance that there is no god. An example of usage would be "I'm an atheist because a god would never allow a fuckwit like you to exist."

How have you managed to be even more of a loser than the OP?

u/daskrip Jun 07 '23
I'm gonna stop myself from getting into this and just say you're not smart enough for the discussion to be worth it. Good day bud.

Go away dumbass. I would prefer to not to hear from folks who haven't the ability to have abject thoughts. Enjoy foxnews while it still exists though, stupid person

I guess in whatever dimension you actually grow enough balls to admit you were wrong about the definition of atheism, we can move on to the word "abject" which you also seem to struggle with.
But really, just going through K-12 is probably a better idea. You should consider it.

This sun has started to become unintentionally hilarious from all the cringelord posts like this where OP basically puts themselves on blast, and I kinda love it.
