Wait no, it's not crazy. It's infuriating. Gay icon Michelangelo. Gay icon Statue of David. It's infuriating.
9
u/Suspicious-Pasta-Bro 9d ago
The Nazis hated gay people and discriminated against them viciously, up to and including mass murder in the Holocaust. That's what made their love of Michelangelo hypocritical.
The thing is, however, that although most white supremacists are ardently homophobic, there are gay white supremacists. We should never deny that gay people have the capacity for racism just because they are the victims of widespread societal oppression.

Among the pupils and associates in Verrocchio’s workshop were Domenico Ghirlandaio, Botticini, Perugino, Lorenzo di Credi, and the sculptor Agnolo di Polo. In April 1476 he was living in Verrocchio’s house, as indicated by a judicial warrant of that date, which accused him and three other young Florentines of sodomy. The accusations were made anonymously and dismissed on the condition that they be brought up again on further evidence. In his distress Leonardo had addressed a petition to Bernardo di Simone Cortigiani, an influential head of the Florentine guilds.
You know as I have told you before, that I am without any of my friends.2
On the reverse of this sheet is the query:
If there is no love, what then?

There’s nothing Americans can do that can’t be turned against them.
Go all-out for our national holidays? We’re too nationalistic.
Don’t go all-out? We don’t have pride in our heritage.
Participate in our ancestral heritage? “You’re not really Polish/European, you’re just an American mutt!”
Don’t participate? “You don’t have pride in your European heritage!”
Europeans just love to shit on us for no apparent reason. Most ones I’ve met in-person or off-Reddit (from Ukraine, Iceland, the U.K., and France) have been great people, but European Redditors are a whole other level of awful. Hate you, too!

It's impressive as hell how it's usually timed to a specific event within the stadium itself. This past weekend was just the anthem, but even something like that is some impressive precision and communication for all involved. You can show up a little early or a little late for the anthem, and people won't really notice, but it still is a small margin for error on circling back towards the stadium right as your given the go ahead.
Europoors & right-wingers who say America has no culture have never had a display of the world's strongest airborne fighting force take place right over their head while the national anthem is blarred at 80k+ alumni, students, and fans who've been drinking since 9am. All in preparation to see college kids play a silly game of regional pride born at East Coast universities over 150 years ago now.

I’ve seen their content, they might post dog whistles and it wouldn’t surprise me, but mostly what I’ve seen is that they’re super obsessed with specifically Roman (or imitation Roman/Italian architecture
And they bemoan other modern styles (some of which I do find soulless)

They don’t appear to have any appreciation for any other eras or styles except like one post with what looked like the Taj Mahal and something to the tune of “see how fancy, why can’t the west remember their heritage like this”
And the threads are full of people shitting on modern art like
My guy “modern art” encompasses a vast array of movements. Just enjoy being whatever the Roman version of a weeb is and stop shitting on things you don’t understand.
Like I’m all for a tasteful revival movement in architecture and preservation of historical construction but there’s plenty to love in certain modern movements.

To be fair, a lot of neonazis don't care too much about complexion, eye, or hair color. Besides; no one really conflated that. Hitler even liked the Ancient Greeks for basically having the capacity to build the Parthenon while the Germans were loose tribes in makeshift housing. He didn't share that same sentiment for modern Greeks, but he romanticized the Romans and Greeks for that time in spite of lacking 'aryan features'.
And it's not like modern Neonazis care about that.

I'm assuming they mean gothic revival/neogothic from the late 19th-early 20th centuries, because there is very little actual gothic in the Americas in general, and pretty much all of it is in the Caribbean.
As far as I know the only gothic church in the US is the Church of San José, in Puerto Rico.
