People are building cathedrals for gender reveals now?

465

u/_erufu_ 9d ago

yeah, for the baptism

146

u/DeliciousTeach2303 9d ago

Virgin goin to a church for a baptism vs chad building your own church for a single baptism

56

u/BrickFlock 9d ago

This ultra rich dude moved in to the small town I grew up in. He bought this old warehouse and had it renovated to be a party/convention space.

Why?

So his daughter would have a fancy place to go to prom.

u/Expensive-Path8324 9d ago

Just a flyover, do we not see this at the superbowl?

That used to be very common in my country (Uruguay), many churches in small towns were built for the landowners' family events (weddings, baptisms, etc).

That's what caused the fire at Notre Dame cathedral in Paris a few years back

9

u/Kythorian 9d ago

The gold was supposed to melt to reveal the gender at the end though, so it didn’t end up working out. Not bad for a first attempt though. I’m sure they will get it right for baby #2.

As an italian alpha male i can confirm this, i have personally built half the churches you see in these posts that lament the fall of the west

Capocollo in the Neapolitan dialect

5

No, it's capocollo in standard Italian. Neapolitan dialect normally truncates or omits quite a few letters, especially at the end.

Italians are definitely western tho. America had a bit of a moment last century when they decided Italians and Irish were not white for some reason, and some people might consider tiny sections of Italy to be more Balkan, but it's incredibly nitpicky

46

u/ForeverHall0ween 9d ago

It's so crazy that nazis have latched on to Michelangelo's David as a symbol of white supremacy. Because durr brown bad.

Wait no, it's not crazy. It's infuriating. Gay icon Michelangelo. Gay icon Statue of David. It's infuriating.

9

u/Suspicious-Pasta-Bro 9d ago

The Nazis hated gay people and discriminated against them viciously, up to and including mass murder in the Holocaust. That's what made their love of Michelangelo hypocritical.

The thing is, however, that although most white supremacists are ardently homophobic, there are gay white supremacists. We should never deny that gay people have the capacity for racism just because they are the victims of widespread societal oppression.

5

u/Cicero_torments_me 9d ago

Wait what they did?!

7

u/Zero-89 9d ago

Sometimes they use works by fellow queer icon Leonardo DaVinci. (Maybe gay, maybe ace, we really don’t know.)

8

u/Geezeh_ 9d ago

DaVinci was once arrested for “sodomy” with a gay prostitute so I dunno about ‘ace’ lol

6

u/Mindless-Frosting 9d ago

Among the pupils and associates in Verrocchio’s workshop were Domenico Ghirlandaio, Botticini, Perugino, Lorenzo di Credi, and the sculptor Agnolo di Polo. In April 1476 he was living in Verrocchio’s house, as indicated by a judicial warrant of that date, which accused him and three other young Florentines of sodomy. The accusations were made anonymously and dismissed on the condition that they be brought up again on further evidence. In his distress Leonardo had addressed a petition to Bernardo di Simone Cortigiani, an influential head of the Florentine guilds.

You know as I have told you before, that I am without any of my friends.2

If there is no love, what then?

Except when the west does it suddenly it’s problematic

12

u/Pooltoy-Fox-2 9d ago

There’s nothing Americans can do that can’t be turned against them.

Go all-out for our national holidays? We’re too nationalistic.

Don’t go all-out? We don’t have pride in our heritage.

Participate in our ancestral heritage? “You’re not really Polish/European, you’re just an American mutt!”

Don’t participate? “You don’t have pride in your European heritage!”

Europeans just love to shit on us for no apparent reason. Most ones I’ve met in-person or off-Reddit (from Ukraine, Iceland, the U.K., and France) have been great people, but European Redditors are a whole other level of awful. Hate you, too!

3

u/BetLarge5226 9d ago

That's a really weird take for American fascists. Especially when Americans already salute the flag and seem to have more American flags on the average building than there are Union Jacks in the entirety of London.

I was at Notre Dame Stadium last weekend, and they flew 4 jet fighters overhead for Central Michigan. Fucking Notre Dame vs Central Michigan is reason enough to organize a fighter plane flyover. A directional MAC school who lost 41-17...

Wasn't even the home opener, I love America

u/Doggydog123579 9d ago

Pilots need to maintain their hours somehow, may as well make it fun and promote the military.

5

u/Advanced-Bird-1470 9d ago edited 9d ago

This exactly the answer that every time people call it wasteful. Yes, it’s very expensive to put hours on any aircraft but they were gonna be up that day/week anyway. It’s also good practice for being a a specific location at a specific time, and in a specific formation.

Extra info for anyone curios https://youtu.be/P7Gogms-EP4?si=Wqe0aexsqBMd3DA3

3

u/GoodOlSticks 9d ago

It's impressive as hell how it's usually timed to a specific event within the stadium itself. This past weekend was just the anthem, but even something like that is some impressive precision and communication for all involved. You can show up a little early or a little late for the anthem, and people won't really notice, but it still is a small margin for error on circling back towards the stadium right as your given the go ahead.

Europoors & right-wingers who say America has no culture have never had a display of the world's strongest airborne fighting force take place right over their head while the national anthem is blarred at 80k+ alumni, students, and fans who've been drinking since 9am. All in preparation to see college kids play a silly game of regional pride born at East Coast universities over 150 years ago now.

I’ve seen their content, they might post dog whistles and it wouldn’t surprise me, but mostly what I’ve seen is that they’re super obsessed with specifically Roman (or imitation Roman/Italian architecture

And they bemoan other modern styles (some of which I do find soulless)

But like

They don’t appear to have any appreciation for any other eras or styles except like one post with what looked like the Taj Mahal and something to the tune of “see how fancy, why can’t the west remember their heritage like this”

And the threads are full of people shitting on modern art like

My guy “modern art” encompasses a vast array of movements. Just enjoy being whatever the Roman version of a weeb is and stop shitting on things you don’t understand.

Like I’m all for a tasteful revival movement in architecture and preservation of historical construction but there’s plenty to love in certain modern movements.

Neo-Nazis when they realize Romans were olive skinned, had mostly brown eyes and were mostly dark haired: 🥺

15

u/Arbiter008 9d ago

To be fair, a lot of neonazis don't care too much about complexion, eye, or hair color. Besides; no one really conflated that. Hitler even liked the Ancient Greeks for basically having the capacity to build the Parthenon while the Germans were loose tribes in makeshift housing. He didn't share that same sentiment for modern Greeks, but he romanticized the Romans and Greeks for that time in spite of lacking 'aryan features'.

And it's not like modern Neonazis care about that.

I get the jets flying a flag patriotically, but I don't comprehend the building they're flying over. What sport could they play in such a place, and why isn't the roof open so the spectators can see the planes?

u/Smooth-Chair3636 9d ago

We legit fly planes over our Nascar races and other events all the time. Italy flies 9 planes one time and suddenly it's cool and America needs to catch up? Get ya act together man.

America has good gothic architecture too. This… is more “the Americans have forgotten how to be proud whites” bullshit.

Hide behind a statue(that from their perspective has a massive dong) and whine about the supposed degradation of ‘the west’ by intermittently felating a Russian general and regularly being unfarhomably racist. Twitter machismo has become virtually impossible to parody.

and whine about the supposed degradation of ‘the west’ by ... regularly being unfarhomably racist

To be fair, racism has been very ingrained in western culture in the time period that they want back. Countries didn't colonise and ensalve themselves under the guise of "bringing civilisation", you know.

gothic

Gothic is from around 11th/12th century. I doubt America has it.

7

u/FlamingRose24 9d ago

Does America have any gothic architecture of this quality and scale? Genuine question, because I’ve never really heard of gothic architecture in the US.

16

u/ArctikMARC 9d ago

I'm assuming they mean gothic revival/neogothic from the late 19th-early 20th centuries, because there is very little actual gothic in the Americas in general, and pretty much all of it is in the Caribbean.

As far as I know the only gothic church in the US is the Church of San José, in Puerto Rico.

3

u/bullfromboston 9d ago

The Washington national church? Or is that a sub Gothic style?

6

u/TheLocalCryptid 9d ago

Wikipedia doesn’t have anything from the US in their Notable Examples section of Gothic Architecture, if that means anything to you.

8

u/Heathen_Mushroom 9d ago

Not a surprise since the latest examples of Gothic architecture date to the 1500s. The US was not even settled but Europeans yet.

There is however a lot of Gothic revival architecture in the US, such as this little church, or this larger example in the same area.

Do they think we can’t comprehend fighter jets being used for a patriotic display? Football Sunday would like a word.

3

u/TheBirminghamBear 9d ago

Yeah I was going to say, outrageous use of military equipment for patriotic circlejerking is like, one of America's top products.

7

u/Mr-biggie 9d ago

The average Jersey gender reveal party involves a squadron of planes flying over a medieval cathedral?

Yes. Problem?

Change the green to blue and I’m sure this is a nascar or nfl event

3

u/DJ2wyce 9d ago

They act like we don't do this for almost every NFL game

20

u/Calodyn_ 9d ago

They still did this after a kid died when a plane crashed during rehearsals ? That's bold

33

u/porcorosso1 9d ago

It's an old photo taken in Milan, the accident happened in Turin. Every rehearsal is obviously suspended
